Run a net from the phone

45 minutes · Grades 9 to 12

Bring: the club's net page open on a phone; the club's handheld; the licensed volunteer.

Goal

The class runs one short net: a student reads the script as net control, the others check in from their phones, the volunteer keys the radio and confirms each one.

Roles (10 minutes)

Net control keeps the list and the time; the control operator keeps the radio legal; everyone else checks in when called. On the club's net page the volunteer opens the session; the student net control reads the script line by line.

The net (25 minutes)

Students check in from the phone; the volunteer confirms each station as it is heard. Take traffic: one student has a message for the school office, passed the way a real net would pass it. Close the net; the app writes the summary and posts it to the club's Discord.

Close (10 minutes)

Read the summary together. The first confirmed check-in is a milestone on each student's account; students under 13 are supervised profiles and have no account, so the volunteer keeps their names on paper in the school.
